Privacy Policy
How Neurobiome collects, uses, and protects your information.
Effective date: July 16, 2026 · Last updated: July 16, 2026
Neurobiome ("Neurobiome," "we," "us") is a science and community resource on the gut–brain axis, published by Flore (formerly Sun Genomics), 51 W. Jackson St, Ste 105, Joliet, IL 60432, USA. This policy explains what we collect when you use neurobiome.org, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
If you have questions or want to exercise any of your rights, email [email protected].
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account & sign-in. Your email address (we use passwordless "magic link" sign-in), and an optional display name. If you turn on two-factor authentication, we store the secret needed to verify your codes.
- Self-reported tracker data. If you run an n-of-1 experiment or log to the tracker, we store what you enter — for example symptoms, ratings, protocols, and notes. This can include information about your health, which you provide voluntarily.
- Stories & comments. Anything you submit to share with the community. You choose what to include and whether it is published.
- Quiz & assessment answers. The responses you give in our gut-brain quiz.
- Messages to our concierge / assistant. The text you send when using on-site chat or help features.
- Payment information (Pro). If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card number — we keep only a subscription reference and status.
Information collected automatically
- Log & device data. Standard server logs including IP address, browser/user-agent, pages requested, and timestamps.
- Cookies. A small number of essential cookies (for sign-in sessions and security). See our Cookie & Tracking Policy.
- Email engagement. When we send you email through SendGrid, we may record whether it was opened and which links were clicked, so we can improve what we send.
2. How we use your information
- To provide and secure the service — sign you in, run the tracker, publish stories you choose to share, and process Pro subscriptions.
- To communicate with you — send magic-link sign-in emails, service notices, and, if you opt in, occasional tips, offers, and updates about our products and expansions. You can unsubscribe from non-essential email at any time.
- To moderate community content and enforce our Terms & Conditions.
- To understand and improve our content and features, including in aggregated or de-identified form.
- To comply with law and protect the rights and safety of our users and Neurobiome.
3. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
Where the GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (to run your account and Pro plan); consent (for optional marketing email and for any health-related information you choose to share — a special category of data); legitimate interests (to secure the service, moderate content, and improve our resource); and legal obligation where required. You may withdraw consent at any time.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who work for us, under contract: Twilio SendGrid (email), Stripe (payments), and Cloudflare (hosting, security, and content delivery).
- Flore and affiliated Flore brands, where needed to operate the service or fulfill something you requested.
- Legal & safety: when required by law, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the service.
- Business transfers: if Neurobiome or Flore is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may transfer as part of that transaction.
5. Community content is public
Stories, comments, and experiments you choose to make public are visible to others. Please do not include information in public posts that you would not want widely seen. You can ask us to remove content you posted.
6. Your rights & choices
- Access & export. You can download your data from your account.
- Correction & deletion. You can edit your profile, delete content you posted, and close your account (which deletes or de-identifies your personal data) from your account or by emailing us.
- Marketing opt-out. Every marketing email has a one-click unsubscribe link; essential service emails (like sign-in links) will still be sent.
- EEA/UK rights: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
- California (CCPA/CPRA): the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of "sharing"/"sale" — we do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined, and we do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
To exercise any right, email [email protected]. We will verify your request and respond within the time the law requires.
7. Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, then delete or de-identify it, except where we must keep records to meet legal, accounting, or security obligations.
8. Security
We use passwordless sign-in, optional two-factor authentication, encryption in transit (HTTPS), and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to notify you and regulators of a breach where the law requires.
9. Children
Neurobiome is intended for adults (18+). It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International users
We operate in the United States. If you use Neurobiome from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be processed in the U.S., which may have different data-protection laws than your country.
11. Health information is not medical advice
Neurobiome is an educational resource. Nothing you read here, and nothing you track, is a diagnosis or medical advice. See our Medical Disclaimer.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
